I have and 87 33ft winnebao elandan with 454 engine. Had a recent tune up and ahs run fine. this weekend it began struggling to pull hills and seemed to be starved for gas. I suspected vapor lock as it was hot, 85 degrees. .however when i stopped and shut it off, it cranked right back up several times which made me suspect fuel starvation rather than vapor lock. Don't know if tune up included fuel filter change but will verify that. Does this unit have electric fuel pump. any other suggestions?? When I stopped we dropped the toad and drove it alone and it made a big difference, but it still was surging and not running on full power.

My 87 Mallard 37 had similar problem, changed filters, had carb rebuilt, replaced both fuel pumps(manual on engine, electric in tank), also found out it had a fuel pressure regulator near the fuel tank.
I did't do all these things at once, fix one thing and would run okay for a while, etc. The last thing I did was replace the pressure regulator and cranked it wide open. I can now pass semis coming out of Harrisburg PA going north

If this is carbed, 9 out of 10 filter at carb is bad, or if not changed hardened.

I am experiencing a similar problem with my 1987 Pace Arrow. I have not been able to locate a filter at the carburator. Are they normally right near or attached to the carburator? I have an electric fuel pump, frame mounted alongside the fuel tank. There is also a cannister type of filter there. I don't see any pressure regulator though. I don't think my electric fuel pump is running at all times and believe this to be my problem. My next step is to clean and tighten all the electrical connections for the power supply to this pump. Any other ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Re: 454 surging Eric 5-30-02
I have an 87 Pace Arrow. Rochester carb. There is a filter on the carb itself. The filter is where the fuel enters the carb. You have to use two wrenches to remove. Be careful not to strip when putting back together.
