One thing to check, if engine runs good and using oil out exhaust..Is it constant blue smoke, or at start up. You may just need valve seals, or oil return holes are clogged up. This can happen when engine runs hot and not doing proper oil changes, sludge builds and then return holes clog letting oil leak past valve guides
If you have a drivers door it can come out thru the door. Remove the seat. We did one at our shop and had to remove the intake and heads in order to get clearance. If there is no drivers door I have heard you have to remove the windshield to access. (not sure of this though) Good luck!
No easy way, usually up through dog house..unless you have room through frame rails, but doubtful. Why do you have to pull engine?? Shot??
I need to remove the 454 Chev engine from a i995 Pace Arrow 33 foot motor home. What is the best way.
Thanx
I am using oil very badly out the exhaust. I am hoping it is just a bad set of rings, and will be able to replace them with block still installed. Hoping cylinder walls are not scored.

Do it right and put a new engine in it. These 454's need all the help they can get, not because they are a bad engine but because they are so abused. I see a lot of 454's that ruin a vacation because someone tried to shade tree the overhaul. Plus with an engine you get a warranty. Much better than having the wife crying about the shoddy work you did that left her in the middle of nowhere. *G*

I just had the 454 changed out on my 92' 33' pace arrow. It came out through the dog house and out the drivers door. I blew a rod on the road and had to have it done out of town. I agree put in a GM crate RV engine with a warranty. It's a lot easier at YOUR convience than on the road. Make sure you you replace all the hoses, belts, etc. while your at it. I'm thinking about the Gale Banks power pack for this engine, has anyone had any luck with them? Would like a little more power for towing.

If you are considering a factory engine, I would recommend the ht502. It has 518 ft lbs of torque at 2800 rpm. Right at 60 mph on most P30s. Compare that to a 454. I dropped mine out the bottom. The crossmember and the whole front suspension drops down with just a few bolts on each side. Roll it right out. Then you can lower the eng and trans with no help. Contact me for detailed instructions if you are interested.
I have a 1990 Airstream Land yacht with a cooked 454. Is this a candidate for the HT502? Any idea what the final cost should be. A rebuilt 454 instalation and parts seems to run about 6500 - 7000. Thanks. Read
