Hello,
I have a 90 HMC 36'Motor coach. It weighs 16K and is gas powered.460 Ford.
It is a 40K engine with new heads, carb, and intake. No EGR valve. It is a commercial engine and low RPM. It has a overdrive after market bolted on the back of the C6.
At cruise speed 2500 is 55MPH. At 3000 the speed is 65 MPH.
My mileage....6.17 MPG! My timing might be off and there might be a vacuum leak...it reads 12 at idle.
OK that is my present problem and on to the main question.
What diesel would you recommend? a 12V or a 2003 24V Cummins?
Do my gears sound right for a Cummins?
I have air suspension. Electric brake booster, air shift, and air emergency brakes.
Front end weight will not be an issue. Maybe larger air bags will be ordered.
This would be a front engine installation.
What Cummins would be the best mileage?
I would like to see 15 at 60MPH. Would that be possible?
I just installed 3" dual pipes and muff. Could these be used with a Cummins?
The inteior is better than a new high end coach. I am a retired boat builder.
All appliances and interior is new.
Can a mechcanical fuel pump be installed on a 2003 engine to by pass all the electrical and computer issues?
Thanks in advance for any help....Don
I'd go with the 03 or later Cummins, the computer to them is bolted right on the engine, and only needs a couple hot wires to get the whole thing to work, very simple. You can use a cheap holley blue elec. pump to feed the engines main injection pump.A 3" exhaust is fine too. I think 12-13mpg should be about right. I get this with my truck and fifthwheel in tow.
