Engine oil warren 4-23-08
What weight motor oil do you recomend for a 1986 gmc 454.in a class A 30' motor home.
On the dip stick it call for 10 w 30.
That seems very light.

Where are you running? Texas in the summer? Then yes it is light 20-50 would be a better choice. Not in a freaking hot desert. Then 10w30 will do just fine. If you have the original owners manual for your chaisis it will probably make recomendations on oil for extreem climates. You will find that most of the lower 48 don't qualify as extreem with the exception of desert states and the like. Where I am I park my unit with 0-30 synthetic so it might start if I need it to over the winter and run 10-30 synthetic all summer. If you are worried about it breaking down due to heat synthetic will protect better against that sort of problem. But don't exstend your oil change interval. The reason we change oil is to get rid of contaminants, not because the oil is worn out. synthetic gets just as dirty as conventional oil. Good luck
