Converting an RV from 30 to 50 amp Marti Benner 2-6-08
Does anyone know anything about doing this to an RV. We have a 2005 Southwind that is 30 amp and we need to change it to 50 amp.

Thanks.
Re: Converting an RV from 30 to 50 amp BUBBA THE BUS TECH 2-6-08
OK theroy first. 30 amp service is 100% 115 volt house current. Use a multy meter and get only 115 volts regardless how you test. 50 amp service uses 220 volt and splits it into "legs" off the transformer. Each leg is the basic 115 volt service. Thats why 50 amp is 4 conectors rather than the 3 in a 30 amp plug. Changing will probably need a new breaker panel that will acept 220 service and split correctly. 50 amp service wire from the panel to the outside conector and of course a 50 amp cord. Now you need an electrician that actually understands what he is doing.( I have seen many that don't) He will need to re wire the new breaker box in and corectly correct the service cable and conector. If it is done wrong it will feed 220 through your trailer and blow the converter, microwave and any other electronics pluged in. I would do this on my own unit but because of the finacial risk of messing up another unit I wouldn't let our shop get involved. Good Luck
Converting 30 amp US RV to 220 volt European power for export Amos Slater 8-20-08
I have a customer who wants to export RV to Europe. It has 30-amp/115 volt input, but needs 220-volt input to conform to European standards. How do we do it and what do we need?
