Hi, i have a 1996 Holiday Rambler Vacationer 7.4 Ford (with LPG conversion)however the speedo and mileage have stopped working unless you put the headlights on, then its all ok.Any ideas as i cannot only drive at night !!! I have looked behind the dash, and there appears to be no loose connections, i think a lost earth(ground)is a possibility.
You definately are back feeding the power to run the speedo from the lighting circuit. I in this case would be tempted to check the fuses and carfully check the operation of everything else on the dash then steal power from the switched feed for the stereo to run the speedo. By the way the bus company I worked for requierd the drivers to keep the head lights on while moving for saftey. May be this was intentional from somebody else that ran this unit that way? The could be stealing the power from the lighting circuit because they thought was an easy fix? Good Luck
Bubba, thanks for your response, the speedo did work previously without lights so its a fault not a deliberate wiring alteration. I also was going to check all terminations for voltage while no lights on, then retest with lights on, and the terminal which becomes live i proposed to feed from the ignition on supply via a inline fuse for safety.I will keep you posted on the results.By the way after reading other posts really impressed with the help you get on this site, especially for us here in UK where these RVs are still in the minority.
