We have our 5th wheel (Coachmen Catalina Lite 22') hooked up to shore power at our home. My parents are staying with us for Christmas, so we have been sleeping in the 5th wheel. Just moments ago the power went out to the 5th wheel (all power - both front and rear which are on separate GFI circuits, the refrigerator and the rooftop A/C are not functioning now).
My first instinct was that it was the circuit breaker in the house - after checking this was incorrect. I then checked the circuit breakers in the 5th wheel, after resetting them all there was still no power. I also reset all the GFI circuits through the GFI outlets, even tough the A/C is not even on one of these circuits. I have checked the shore line an it is fine.
Any ideas what could be the cause of the TOTAL power outage?
Good morning Donald;
are you sure the receptacle the camper is Plugged into-has 120 volts--if it's a GFI protected receptacle--it will trip-
turn off House circuit breaker and re close it.
-rv should NOT be plugged into GFI protected receptacle-

I disagree strongly about not plugging your unit into a GFI circuit or outlet. Some converters with no problems will trip a GFi but in general a triped GFI indicates a problem. We use them in our shop as we have had several techs shocked by faulty trailers. It sounds as if you have a faulty cord, end plug on the trailer where the supply cord hooks etc etc. The most common one we see is a trailer pluged in with a light cord into the normal wall outlet in the garage. This causes failures of breakers that will not re set, burnt out outlets, burnt out cords, damaged wiring in the trailer etc.
I'd bet Bubba is on the right trail. Unplug, re-set brkr, then measure Voltage at the outlet. Next, plug in a NEW 12ga extension cord, measure voltage again at he far end of the cord. I bet you can take it from here.
