I work at a used auto sales company and our mechanic needs some help with a 1999 Dodge Truck 4X4. The brake lights won't work, everything else works, (parking, flashers, blinkers). What could be the problem. He replaced a switch that was melted but it still won't work. Thanks
Like any good mechanic, he should check to see if he has voltage getting to the switch. No voltage would suggest a blown fuse or faulty circuit breaker, perhaps a burned out fusible link.
If there is voltage there, have someone depress the brake peddle while he checks for voltage at the brake light sockets. If there is, the bulbs are bad or the ground has been lost, if not, the wiring has shorted (probably the reason for the melted switch)
