Batteries Jerry 11-19-07
I can't figure it out. I charge both brand new batteries & they both read 12 volts with my volt meter. I put both of them back in the rig & it starts right up. I let it run for 10 minutes & while its running, my amp meter in the rig shows over 12. I shut it off & try to start it again & both batteries are so low, the starter won't turn over. Both batteries are reading less than 6 volts. I hook jumper cables to my truck & the rig starts right up. Let it run for a while & shut it off. Try to start it again, both batteries are down. Its like they are draining immediately. I spent an hour studying wiring diagrams & everything looks correct. What am I doing wrong?

Check between ALT. & Bat. with meter set to AC & rig running. If you have a good AC reading your diodes are bad. They usually burn open, but they can let current go both ways and that will zap your Bat. very quick. Rich

You should have 14.2 running DC
while running and meter is on DC check what is your alternator putting out-
are you sure you have batteries hooked up correctly?
is this a gas rig? normally one start 12 volt battery
and 2 6 volts in series or 2 12 volt in parallel for the house circuits.

Re: Batteries Jerry 11-20-07
Yes, my rig is gas. Dodge 440 motor. 2 12 volt batteries running through isolator & relay. When rig is running, my battery meter in the rig shows about 14 so it appears the alternator is charging. I used our companies load tester & when I hook it to 1 battery, it shows the battery is good but when I push the "load" switch, the meter shows the battery is bad.
Re: Batteries Jerry 11-20-07
I was told that the deep cycle Marine/RV battery I got from Walmart will not hold up cranking my 440 motor on my rig even though it has 875 cranking amps. I was told to get a truck battery with 1000 cranking amps & that would solve my problem. I guess I can try that.
Re: Batteries sparky 11-20-07
If they are dieing after running and the alternator is "charging" is it possible your isolator "diode's" are bad-?
i rarely buy w/mt crap make them adjust battery-"if they will"
