Rear a/c unit on Motor Home Mary Lundy 10-1-07
My rear a/c was running fine - this trip - once it runs a while it seems like something must be heating up and the compressor can't come on. Once it is off for a couple of hours - it will run again for a while then it happens all over again. Hopeing to pull off of your knowledge.

The AC has a saftey device that will shut it off if the cooling portion(evaporator) gets to cold. Usualy what is called a freeze off. It will then sit untill the evaporator defrosts and warms up then goes back to work. Your AC shouldn't do this unless the drain is plugged. The AC should be dripping water steady as it runs. The water should be running off the roof of the Motor home. To fix it you need to check for this water and if none is seen pull the shroud and clean out the drains. Otherwise the compressor has a problem and the over heat safety is tripping. If this is the case check the incoming voltage, if it is below spec (110 V Minimum) with AC running. If it is low (called a brown out) the compressor will run slow and over heat.
Good Luck
