When I plug the cord into a receptacle I have 120v and everythign works, but when I unplug and run the Onan Generator, I don't have 120v. I put the switch on the generator in both positions and still nothing. What should I check?
Do you have a receptacle inside the generator box that the cord will plug into? Don,t know what you have there, may have some type of switching relay that is hanging up. Lots of older rigs just have the recptacle to plug the cord into. Good Luck Mike
Your generator might not be producing AC voltage. Thats the first thing that you should check for. Usually from the generator the AC wires run into a junction box. I've seen burnt connections in these boxes. Your RV might have an transfer switch that isn't transfering on generator power.
When I plug the cord direct to 120v I have electricity and everything works, but when I unplug and run the Onan Generator, I have A/C but I don't have 120v on outlets. Can u helpe me?
I have a 1991 bounder 34. Had power and Airconditioning working etc, Tuned off gen set and 15 minutes later ran gererator again and no AC power from Generator. I plugged in directly next day...and all was ok until I over loaded the circuit by running a vacuum with air cond on. Now no AC power from either Gen or plugg.
Signed new RV owner,
If your gen set is hard wired to the breaker box and the breakers are all on check the breakers at the gen set. on an onan they are to the right side of the external start switch.
Without knowing what make, year, etc of the generator it's hard to say. On the older onans, there are 2 fuses to check or a circuit breaker on the unit itself.
