My 1988 dord ranger with 2.0 V4 does not always turn off when i take the key out, after a while the battery dies on me. I just installed an amplifier with speakers and tweaters, i also installed an rpm on the dash and a radio.

The first thing I would suspect is that you wired one (or all) of those things to the battery rather than thru the accessory fuse or the ignition fuse. Re visit the wiriing for the stuff you installed; if anything is wired to the battery, disconnect it and see if that clears the problem.

Hope that helps!

1994 Ford Ranger 4 X 4 with 2.9L V-6. Starts and runs great until hit 50 to 55 mph. Then starts coughing, spitting, missing. Tom Feamster 2-8-04
Starts and runs great until you hit 50 to 55 mph. Then starts to cough and spit...misses. Have replaced carb, plugs and wires, dist. cap and rotor, new elec. fuel pump and fuel filter. Trans. has also been replaced. What have we done wrong? What have we missed? Could it be the timing belt/chain?

1988 ford ranger just stops running when I'm driving or sometimes just will not start. Its like someone just turned off a switch because other than that it runs great.
