I have a 93 dodge grand caravan. I had a charging problem and took it to the dealer. The dealer said it was code 41* = generator field not switching properly. They wanted to replace the PCM-$500. I got a used one for $75 and put it in myself. I didn't help. I read on the internet that I could reset all the computers by disconnecting the battery and bolting the battery contacts together for 5 min. I tried it and now nothing works! I put the old PCM back in and it still doesn't work. Now, when the battery is connected the circuit breakers under the dash go crazy clicking and none of the inside ligghts work. When I try to start it the parking brake light, the airbag light and the chime which warns you that you have the key in and the door open are the only things that work. The a/c fan doens't blow, the windows don't work, the solenoid doens't click, and the radio doesn't come on. I assume that I blew something but I don't know what. Please help! Anything anyone could suggest would be great!
First off, to clear a computer *ANY COMPUTER* disconnect the negative lead on the battery *ONLY* and leave it off for a few minutes (2 to 5). Don't ever jump one lead to another and don't ever disconnect both and touch them together.
The first thing I would suspect (since the starter solenoid doesn't click) is that you blew the main fuse. This is a fuse located in the underhood fuse box and tends to be bolted into the fuse box since it is rated at 70 to 100 amps. It is amazingly sesitive to stunts like this (and jump starting incorrectly). If it's blown, disconnect the negative terminal *ONLY* at the battery and replace it. make sure the key is nowhere near the ignition and reconnect the battery. If the fuse doesn't blow, try starting; if the fuse blows when you reconnect the battery, you have a burnt wire or (probably) several fusable links. If the fuse wasn't blown to begin with, you have a unique opportunity to get very familiar with the shop manual for your vehicle, since you will need to trace the circuit for just about everything that doesn't work.
