House AC kills RV gen. Mike Thurman 3-28-18
Have a 2001 Onan 2800w gen installed in a 1992 Dodge Roadtrek. Gen. works good EXCEPT when house AC is turned on. Fan works good on AC but when compressor kicks on it kills the gen instantly. House AC works great when connected to shore power. Was told by person who sold and installed the gen. that it has to be something wrong with the house AC and not the gen. I do believe the AC is the original. One more thing. When using a 1600w hair dryer, no problems, gen keeps running.

2800w is peak power so the ac compressor must over load the generator with the fridge, lights, and fan for the ac which trips the overload kill switch for the generator so as to not kill the generator.....either thought or there is a short somewhere between the compressor and the generator. probably just need a larger generator
