Ford ignition problem jon 2-14-03
I have a boat with a 302 ford motor in it, its a 92 model boat, it has fuel injection with the EEC IV i beleive on it... the engine will only start with the spout connector out, but if u put it in right after starting, it cuts off, but if u let it run for a while and then put it back in, then motor will just rough idle. I have noticed that the wiring harness has the ground wire exposed. it was like this when i bought the boat, the motor needed rebuilding when i bought it, so i never had it running. woudl the wriring harness having that wire not properly in place cause this problem?? or do u think i have somethign else bad. the module on the side of the distruibutor has been replaced. would the computer box be bad?? or woudl it be a bad PIP?? and do u know of any diagrams for my distributor, it doesn have vacuum advance on it either..

thanks!
jon

The SPOUT, (SPark OUTput) is the signal from the computer that triggers the module on the side of the distributer. As you noted, there is no vacuum or mechanical advance on the distributer, the computer controls the point at which the plugs are fired, based on sensor input. With the SPOUT connector unplugged, the module fires the engine at a fixed 10 degrees advance. Carefully check all the wiring and make sure all connections are good. In esscence, the computer, via the ignition module, turns off the ground for the coil, just as an old point set did. This causes the coil to "fire", so you can see that any bad wire or connection will give you problems. In my experience, the junction of a wire to a connector is the place to start looking for corrosion and loss of contact, so give a little tug on the wire to check for that.

I just replaced timing chain and was told I need to reset the The SPOUT. Was hoping to get some help on locating this.
