1982 GMC MH Frontier 20' Electrical problem by Jack | |
![]() |
Began to notice everything would go dead intermittently when starting with the ignition switch, but off-on, fiddle and it would start. Then, it finally failed to respond and everything is dead. However the headlights come on and there is lots of battery power. No 12v inside the MH either, like power for the furnace. When the ignition switch was misbehaving and I switched it to off there continued to be a funny sound that appeared to emanate from the area of the firewall or under-dash but it eventually ended before I could locate the source. It reminded me of the low level sound of switch contact arcing off and on until it ended, like a mouse scratching around. I thought maybe a breaker that had tried to reset and then gave up but it seems there are no breakers in the main power path. I have electrical engineering background but no previous MH wiring knowledge. Have downloaded a GMC 76 wiring diagram that may help me a little (also found a 79-86 GMC truck manual) but I'm totally green so any advice would be very much appreciated. Jack |
