Would u know what wire go to what on the coil to my 318... i have the blck wire with yellow stripe going to negative like book says. and the like faded red or brow wire going to positive.. there is another wire i think is for tach that is i think its black or dark dark brown... is that a tach wire??? i have a factory tach in my car

Can't give you the color codes, but can tell you which wire from or to the ECU goes where. First, unplug the connector from the ECU, turn the connector over so you're looking into it with the cluster of the three cavities that the ECU pins go into on your right.. Next, take a piece of paper and draw the outline of the connector. Next, draw the five places in the connector that the pins on the ECU go into, the cluster of three on the right, and the group of two on your left. Starting at the middle one of the group of three, number it "1", then go clockwise to the next one, and number it "2". Continue on around until you end up with "5" at the top right. Peel the insulation back from the connector wiring so you can see the wiring colors. The wire from # "1" cavity goes to the 5 ohm side of the ballast resister---I think that wire is a small green one, remember, the notches on the ballast resister are so you can only plug the connectors on one way. The wire from "2" cavity goes to the coil negative, or (-). The wire from #3 cavity goes to the other end of the 5 ohm side of the ballast resister, same thing about the notches. The wire from cavity # 4 goes to the disributor pickup coil inside the distributor, the wire from cavity # "5" goes to the other terminal of the pickup coil. Power from the "run" position of the ignition switch goes to the other side of the ballast resister, through the ballast resister, where it drops down to around 11 volts with engine running. When you crank the engine, a wire takes power from the "Start" terminal of the ignition switch and feeds it around the ballast resister so you get maximum available voltage to the ignition coil during cranking. If the engine fires during cranking, but doesn't continue to run once you release the key, then the power from your switch in the "run" position isn't getting to the ballast resister, or you've got the coil feed wire on the wrong side of the ballast resister if you're not using the factory wiring harnesses.
