Last trip after running all day, the temp started to climb. engine checked at campground. the next day the elect. fan came on. I had not heard it the day before. workrd perfect for about three days, and then failed to come on one more time. then worked good. Where is the sensor located. could this be the problem

You will need to give more information on your vehicle as there are many variations as to where things are located. Is it factory installed? Some sensors are located in the engine and some in the radiator. Even some are added later and the sensor is placed in the top radiator hose. This could be your problem or a connection, loose wire, or the fan itself.

Sorry about shortage of info. long trip. I have a 91 itasca sunflyer. 0n a 90 chasis, 454. TBI. bought new. the aux fan was already installed, looks to be factory. two wires. blk & red. The red enters above the radiator and into the harness. fan seems to be working properly now. leaving again in oct. and am a little concerned even though the temp never got very high.

Most GM powered motorhomes like yours run about 195 to 200 degrees unless you are towing something behind the motorhome. The engine driven fan will most of the time keep the system cool enough, but there are times when everything is running and the outside air is hot and then the electric fan will kick in. Most cooling fans have constant power and the sensor creates a ground. You could start by checking for power to the fan. Look for a sensor in your radiator. It may have two or three wires on it.
