Headlights on, gages peak Steve 4-1-09
Greetings,
I have a 1977 Vogue Class C based on a Dodge with a Sportsman cab. It has a 440-3. My problem is when I turn on the headlights, the gages peak to the top and stay until lights are turned off and they return to normal. I'm guessing it is a short, but unsure where to start. Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve

Steve I not sure if the 77 model uses a 5 volt regulator for the gauges but the older Dodges used them.If the ground from the regulator gets loose or a poor connection due to rust or corrosion it allows the voltage on the gauges to rise from 5 to 12 volts causing them to peg full scale.I would check for a bad ground around the PC board in the dash panel. It may be grounding thru the dash lamps if the gauge ground is open.Lots of strange things can happen if you loose a ground.Good Luck Mike PS usually the old rigs grounded with a screw in to the sheet metal where the panel attached to the dash.
