I have a 1997 Itasca on a P30 chassis, last year I had to have the shift cable replaced due to it being frozen and could not shift out of park. Since then when I shift to reverse the auto brake comes on and I can't back up. Iv'e had the local Chevy garage attempt to adjust the shift cable, but it dosen't help. Any help?
Thanks Harry
There is a solenoid operated by brake switch on the brake pedal that releases the shifter under the dash-called "actuator switch" 15968538 see if you have this it's on the right side of the steering colume brace the solenoid will be on the left side which releases the lock on the shifter.rich
data from my 98 Bounder
Check out or search on the RV OPEN ROAD FORUM I see lots of info there.Even have one section on this problem in the search section. Some times I have seen post with a heat problem causing the cable adjustment to change causing problems. Good Luck Mike
Mike, you may have saved my life. My problem only occurs (going in park when I shift to reverse) when I've driven 10 to 20 miles and the engine/driveline are hot. After service at the dealer it works fine, then I drive it home (12 miles) and no back up. Any one want to buy a nice 1997 Itasca?
