P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Ben Bibb 9-8-07
AUTO PARKED – Please help. 2002 R-Vision Condor, 8.1 Vortec engine. Auto Park system uses Relay Logic, not the TYCO ECM module. I am at home 130 miles from my M/H facing the unnecessary cost of dropping the drive shaft and towing – somewhere I can pay the mechanic to learn about this system.
PROBLEM: Fuse 11 (15A fuse in Chassis Fuse Block at drivers left knee) blows the instant ignition is turned on. Brake buzzer sounds for 5 seconds then goes off. Brake Warning light stays on. Yellow Pull to Apply Switch does nothing. Gear selector will not shift the transmission into any gear. With the engine running and shifting through the gears, the vehicle will not move.
WHAT I KNOW: The pump motor runs when I remove connector and apply 12 V to the motor. The D-III reservoir looks low to me, about 1/2 full – I see no full mark.
The W/H Chassis Guide does not reflect this model accurately. The electrical information is incomplete at best. I clearly understand the concept and intent of this ‘safety’ system. It is rather simple in concept, obtuse in mechanization.
MY DELEMA: As a retired EE and a Ham Radio operator for over 50 years I am baffled by the locations of components and routing of wiring. I cannot find the physical location of the ‘Park/Neutral Position Relay’ although W/H assures me it is on the wall left of the left valve cover. I see no frayed or burnt wiring and with 36K miles on the odometer it is not dirty.
MY QUESTION: If I can find this actuator emergency ‘pin’ and remove it, will some sensor in or around the actuator tell the transmission all is well? I understand why the normal transmission Park Pall is not present.
If releasing the actuator by removing the pin will not restore gear shifting, what will?
I will post an accurate schematic and part location for this model on my website when my M/H comes back home.
Thanks in advance, Ben, NO5K ben@4x4nmore.com

Go to http://www.rvmechanic.com/current_category.2176/Forum.53029/forum_thread_full.html

for a substantive discussion about this parking brake. Also, go to Workhorse site (assuming you have a Chevy engine); you will find a manual about your chassis, in the PARTS MANUALS section(You will have to register to get the download).

Auto park has its own hydrolic pump with a pressure switch: you could be out of oil (Dexron trans fluid) or the pressure switch is dead.

The brake, which sits behind the transmission, must have oil pressure to release; it can be disabled; without oil pressure to release it in drive, it stays set and the RV won't move...

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Rick 9-1-13
I also have a leaking auto parking brake system. I try to wipe it all down to find leak, but can't find it. I was told it could be 'green pressure switch'.
Would someone tell me procedure in taking it off w/o any major problems?

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Troy 1-12-08
I have a 99 Georgetown with 454 chevy, on a recent trip to Florida the autopark leaked out all fluid and the shoes completely burned out of it. when i put in trans fluid, i here it trying to engaged and disengage. i finally got tired of buying trans fluid and just finished my trip even though i have no park at all. I just chock the wheels everytime i stop. how do i fix this and where do i get parts?
Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Ben bibb 10-8-07
Bob Bender, thank you for your most informative reply. Actually my problem was a failed pressure switch at the brake actuator, it shorted to ground blowing F-11. This was an unusual failure however with the technical information supplied by oldusedbear, it took 3 hours to blueprint the entire system and diagnose the problem. - Of course the last thing I checked was the problem. It took an hour to drive into the city for the part and exactly 10 minutes to change it and clean up.
It is really a simple system and quite reliable if properly maintained. I do read of many problems with the system however they are mostly exasperated by a lack of familiarity with the vehicle’s systems. I have facilitated repairing two other A/P problems for others since my repair.
Thanks again,
De NO5K

Hello Ben;
not a tech---but fixed a lot of them---I have a Bounder---it's leaked out twice and fixed many via the net --i have all the diagrams and part no.'s
the green switch is the one that normally leaks the oil out
GM part no. 15961566 cost close to $50.oo

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Bob Bender 10-3-07
Maybe a bit late with this but, I hope it helps you or someone else.

My sister and brother-in-law have a 2002 Condor also.

They had the same problem with the Autopark brake not releasing. I know you were told the Autopark relay was on the left wall of the engine compartment. If you were looking for some kind of panel or box you'd be out of luck, same as me.

If you look forward, to the left of the valve cover (under the inside engine cover), there is a wire loom running vertically just within reach. I found the relay on the end of a set of 4 wires TAPED to the wire loom. Its a pretty very small relay but it will probably be taped to the plug on the end of those 4 wires. It looks like it was added as an afterthought.

I simply untaped it, unplugged the relay and used some emery cloth to clean the contacts (they were extremely corroded as it hangs out in the open to water and road grime), sprayed some electric motor cleaner (with corrosion preventative) in the female receptacle. Plugged it back in, reinstalled the pin in the parking brake and no more problems.

I also taped a plastic bag over the relay to prevent further problems.

A friend of mine in Colorado who has 3 RV dealerships said they used to rent rent out a ton of Condors and that was very common problem.
Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Adam Smith 8-29-09
I found a great guy in South Florida (Miramar) that rebuilt my actuator for $400.00 and he shipped it back to me for free within 2 days of receiving it. My auto-park brake actuator was leaking oil and I couldn’t move the RV. I called a few dealers and they wanted $2100 to replace the actuator, and the RV had to be in their lot for about a week as they needed to special order the part from GM. While in the shop a nice guy gave me the telephone of someone that could rebuilt it for me for about $400, I called him and good enough, he provided instructions on how to remove the park brake actuator, I package it with lots of news paper and shipped it to him for about $15.00 and in less than 48 hours he shipped it back to me Priority Mail (free of charge). He requested I mark the actuator with my name, and good enough I received my own actuator back and it works excellent. I've had it installed now for about 6 month and it works like brand new. He gave me 1 year warranty. Give him a call, his name is Jose and his phone is 305-218-8875, if he is not available to take your call leave him a message and he will call you back as soon as possible.

2002 Winnebago Brave Workhorse 8.1
I had an auto park problem. I pulled the pin and drove it home. I bought the green, gray switch and the relay. My gray switch located next to the hydrolic pump was busted so I replaced it and everything seemed to work fine until I decided to go on a trip. I went about five miles and the engine (without warning) shut off. I shorted accross the starter solenoid and cranked it back up. Returned home. I am now trying to find the green switch location. I found abrown pressure switch outside of the reservoir. Should it be green? If not where is the green switch and the relay also?

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Fernando Pineda 5-1-11
I made a tool to release autopark brake when it won't desengage due to either electrical or hydraulic failure. It works by removing the cover from the autopark assembly and removing the hydraulic cylinder from de actuator assembly by removing the four nuts that keeps the two pieces toguether. Next step, once the hydraulic cylinder is removed and pleced on the side (you do not need to remove hoses or anything else),place the plate where the cylinder was attached and use the same nuts to attach de plate by tightening nuts. Then inserting a jack screw in the center of the plate turn it clockwise until it stop. You are now ready to continue until repairs are done. Make sure when you come to a stop, to place a wheel shocks to prevent transmission pawl from taking the weight of the rig and posibbly damaging the transmission. Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE wayne fawcett 11-15-09
Auto Park light on instrument panel remains on; however, brake seems to work properl e.g., it sets when I shift to park and releases when I shift from park. My question is: could this be one of the pressure switches on the system, and if so, where is the switch located? Mcnxfy M/H is a 1998 Pace Arrow Vision. Chassis is Chev. P32

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Ron Cutlip 11-29-09
This is the third time that the auto-brake system has locked up on me. I have only 16K miles on a 2003 Condor by Trail-lite, class A motor-home. Auto-brake light came on while driving. Once I came to a stop - brakes locked up vehicle totally. Had to crawl underneath and disconnected brake cable. Now I don't know how to reconnect. What do I do?
Thanks,

Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Terry Knott 1-2-09
Al, were you able to repair your auto park brake? If so what did you do. I have a 2002 Winnebago Sightseer and cannot get the park brake to release when in reverse or drive, I have checked the yellow push/pull knob and checks ok.Fuse is ok too, took a while to find the fuse, it is located on left side under dash board, and the fuse was not in the, manual from Workhorse. Any info you could proveide will be greatly appreciated.
Re: P32 AUTO PARK BRAKE Bill Neeland 12-21-09
Go to this website for a APB work around http://autoparkfix.com/. This new system is designed to allow a manual reset when a problem occurs and also has indicator lites that indicate what the problem is.
