P30 auto park leaks/locked up dale 7-28-07
Just finished a service call on a 94 frontier with a p30 chasis. problem was oil leaking behind transmission. rolled under and found resevoir about empty and park brakes holding tight. had customer disengage brakes and oil came pouring out of spring acuator hole. I removed hyd cylinder and disassembled it to find piston seals about gone. i called chevy dealer and they only sold the acuator as an assembly for $755.00 and didn't have any in stock. this vehicle also has a foot parking brake connecting to the same brake so i just had to find an easy way to release the auto brakes. when i took off the hydraulic cyl (4 nuts) there was a fifth hole that was threaded. I found a bolt 9/16 with 18 tpi and screwed it in which compressed the spring and pushed the cable to release the brakes. IF I OWNED ONE OF THESE VEHICLES I WOULD GET A BOLT I COULD USE TO RELEASE THIS SYSTEM AND PUT IT IN MY TOOL-BOX.
