Electric Brakes Dan Saucy 6-14-07
I have a 25ft trailer with 10" electric brakes. New linings, new magnets, all electricals checked out. The trailer weighs 3800 dry, probably about 4500# as I tow it with empty tanks. I pull it with a Ford E-150. Is it normal that if I apply the trailer brakes manually full on when I'm driving say 45 MPH, I feel it slow down, but it is not abrubt and it seems like the trailer wheels are nowhere close to locking up.

Thanks

I have a 2year old carson 20' encolsed trailer just hooked up the brakes, after going 40-50miles the spindle is so hot you can't lay your hand on it. If I unadjust the brake controler they will cool down.I have another trailer & have no problem with it so I know its not the controler.there is no hot brake smell it is like the magnet is over heating. It is hotter on one side than the other.Any sugestion?

Good morning Dan
your brakes sound almost normal---you "do not" want them locking up.at 45 MPH, but on manual they should be able to lock up--at still. personally I think a small adjustment might be done-
is your Hitch safe at 4500 lbs ? on a 1/2 ton truck-?that's a lot of dry weight.
rich.
