Hydr Boost Info Earle Hasney 7-10-06  
Just bought an 84 class A motorhome that effidently has a Hydro Boost Brake system. Problem: Where is the master cylinder? Do you fill the master cylinder? Has a can, about a pint, ahead of the radiator that is filled with a brake like fluid, but seems to be connected to the power steering pump. I would judge that you do not use regular power steering fluid. The unit is functioning well, but I need information so I can maintain the unit. Earle

My 86 Winnie has about the same set up.The can up front is for the power steering fluid.Look back behind the drivers side front wheel,Behind the panel is the master cylinder a real PITA to get to.My unit has a opening to check the brake fluid but very hard to open master cylinder lid.Can't see into unit to check without a mirror.A Good idea would be to remove front tire,remove panel to get to master cyl. and flush new brake fluid to avoid troubles later.I just went thru my front brakes and installed new type bleeder screws with check ball in them.Theywork great. A good idea also if you can do it would be to lube the caliper slides with special caliper lube and replace the brake hoses,these seem to have problems coming apart and causing wheels to lock up.I just had problems with my unit and installed new type braded hoses from summit racing,but you can get them lots of places,just did not want problems out on the road.Also hose mfg say that unit will have better stopping power and these old units need all the help thef can get.Also this hose was much cheaper than dealer,$78.00 per hose at dealer but $58 plus shipping for both front and one rear.Good Luck with the coach. Thanks, I found the master cylinder. The only way I can see to fill it is to by a battery water bulb. But I still have the question of what kind of fluid goes in the power steering reservoir? The stuff in mine is clear, like brake fluid. Earle

I use power steering fluid from any parts house.Might be a good idea to flush it also.Back to the brakes you can suck out a lot of the old brake fluid with an old turkey baster before you add clean fluid.I guess you can see what fun it is to get to the master cyl. Mike.

O.K., Everything is settled. Having always used transmission fluid for power steering, I didn't realize power steering fluid was clear. Thanks for all of the information. Earle
