P30 P.S. Whines....I got the answer The Col 12-20-04
I searched back through this forum for answers, tried some suggestions, but I fixed the problem...
The problem.......drove the,87, 454 Chevy Coachman out of the storage yard, and heard the power steering whine..Also, applying the brakes make the same whine..Hydro Boost....About 8 months earlier and only some 600 miles, I replaced my PS pump...never had noises...About a month ago, replaced my clutch fan, and had to remove some belts.....then took it on a 100 mile weekend trip, no problem or noise...So, why the "whine" now? I tightened the belt, still a whine...rechecked the fluid, was ok, rechecked for leaks, none.. Called a mechanic friend who has worked on mine and hundreds of these units and he said to check inside the resovoir while the engine is running. If you see bubbles, you have air..and described how to eliminate the air in the fluid...However, I did not see air bubbles..My fluid tank is some 12 inches away from the actual pump...it is mounted on the firewall, easy to see and add fluid, but did not see bubbles...BUT, if I did, here is the fix, which is what I did anyhow, and it took the whine out of the system....
Jack the two front wheels up, just enough to be able to turn them...With the engine off, press down on the brake pedal and hold while you turn the steering wheel completely to the left and then all the way back to the right....continue to do this for a good 20 minutes, and keep your foot on the brake pedal....If I had bubbles, then at this point, start the engine and check the fluid tank....If you still have bubbles, repeat the process one to two more times.....However, in my case, that 20 minute exercise solved the problem....
Hopefully this will help out a lot of folks who experience the same problem and try (as I do)to fix and repair as much on our own. Good luck all...The Col. Orlando

When my 92 bounder is not in gear I have power with a nast whine, when I put it in gear the power goes away and so does the whine. Do you think I just have alot of air in the sytem? I do have bubbles.

Please help

Thanks.
