P30 chassis brakes Gordon 4-11-03
I have a 1997 Safari Trek on a P30 chassis and the brakes are very soft and mushy. You have to push the pedal way down to get any brakes and then you have to push hard to get good brakes. The seller of the motorhome said he had the dealer check the brakes twice and they claimed no problem. Does anyone have a similar problem or any suggestions on what might be wrong ?

4 wheel disk or rear drum?? If drum rear check to see if they are adjusted. bleed lines..does it have hydro boost?
Change brake fluid would be a first start..complete flush and bleed.

I have a 1999 Trek P30 chassis with 4 wheel disc brakes. Recent TrekTalk article advises using synthetic brake fluid as it has a much higher boil point that Dot3 or 4. My discs/pads show minimal wear at 45K mi. The vehicle is driven (excersized) weekly even while in storage. Do I need to change brake fluid now; if not now, when?

So,was changing the fluid the answer?

I have a 1993 P30 Rexhall Vision with 4 wheel disks and the same problem.

TIA

Eric

Id be checking the lines first for air. fluid doesn't compress ok! Softness must be in either the pads or mechanical only if lines are air-exempt.

Hi Bob, On my first visit to this web site on the 25th I asked Gordon a question by mistake thinking he was the pro. manager of the web site. After reading your reply to his question, I learned how this web site works and liked your answer to him. Your answer was right on target and I had done exactly what you suggested to him in September to my 97 Dolphin with a P-30. I have a question about a problem I have with my "Electric/Auto Parking Brake" Are you acquainted with that system? If you are, I'll detail the problem that maybe you have the solution to. Thanks in advance; Moe
