|When do you need to use air brakes while driving in the mountains ?|

|Air brakes are brakes just like on your car.|
Air brakes are for heavy vehicles. For mountain driving the heavy vehicle has 1 important disadvantage.
THE BRAKES ARE EASY TO OVERHEAT.
This is due to the size and weight of the vehicle, not that they are air brakes.
So we want to go down hill using engine braking including your Jake or Exhaust Brake.
It is possible overheat your brakes to the point that they catch fire or quit working or both. GO EASY on them. See the You Tube videos of runaway trucks for examples.
I recommend all persons starting out on their first trip through the mountains find a nice person to advise you and you can follow.
THIS IS NOT DIFFICULT OR SCARY. It is a basic driving skill, easily learned.
