Brake system on 1978 southwind rv Mark 10-18-14
I recently aquired a 1978 southwind rv and brake pedal was hard. When I started looking at brake system noticed I had a vacuum boost system but by power steering pump it says hydro boost. So I'm thinking someone may have tried to convert to vacuum assist brake system..Trying to find out how I can tell what kind of brake system should be on this rv? Could someone please help.Thank you

At this time there was a few of these systems built with an emergency back up Vac Brake Booster as part of the hydro vac. When the hydro boost quit the brakes sucked big time.

WIth out looking at your unit this may be what you have or someone has eleminated the hydro boost or someone put on a used power steering pump with the Hydroboost label, same pump for power steering and Hydo boost systems. You need to find a nice guy at a Chev dealer (Probably) and give him you chasis Serial (VIN) and see if it is a Hydroboost unit.

Good Luck

Thank you for the advice but could you tell me where I would find the chases (vin) number? Also how can you tell if it has been converted to vacuum boost?
