Rebuilding calipers Jeff 7-30-14
Anybody have thoughts about rebuilding my own calipers on a Spartan Chassis? I've done it for my own vehicles for a few years and saved a lot of money. Spartan wants about 550$ for one caliper. Hopefully I'll be able to get a part number off the caliper and find a source for rebuild kits. Brakes are in pretty good shape, only not much use during the last 10 years, so they are hanging and I'm sure because of rust and corrosion. I have to buy a heavy impact wrench, as the torque values are 450 foot lbs for the lug nuts. Any sources for rebuild kits for these chassis? Thanks

1ST unless you think you are going to do a lot of wheels a long 3/4 drive breaker bar and approriate socket will do.

2nd As long as they are the hydraulic Calipers I think they are, go ahead and rebuild them. The parts are not going to be quite as rare as you think. Spartan is like most small manufacturers and use brakes built by others. Or at least probably seal kits.

Good Luck
