|P30 1995 brake calipers.||jeff gawley||8-21-12|
|Hi anyone. my rv is allegro bay. 34ft slideout model. its 1995 model.disc brakes all round.i travel from england to spain and portugal every winter.im getting ready to go again soon. but having done this trip many times i have had some problems with the stopping power of the brakes coming down some real steep mountain roads.had the brake shoes smoking ??? the discs are smooth and shiny so i think they are ok. would it be a good idea to change the brake calipers for new ones.they are 17 years old. ?? they look ok and no leakes detected. the foot pedal acts normal also. jeff.|

1st flush the brake fluid with new DOT3 (I am unsure what it is called in Europe) This will help keep unexpected brake failure from happening due to moisture contamination.
2nd Inspect and change the brake pads (Linings), there are some after market metalic and semi metalic pads that will help with extream heat and fading but will also wear your rotors much quicker.
3rd go down those long grades slower and 1 gear lower this year.
The calipers may be condemed on inspection by a mechanic. But I doubt it.
