P30 Auto Brake Steering Column Switch Charles Hollenshead 12-20-08
I have a 1997 Georgie Boy on a Chev P30 chassis. The auto park actuator switch mounted on the lower steering column that actuated by the transmission gear linkage went bad. Tried to adjust and lube, etc. I finally bypassed it with a switch on the dash.
I would really like to change it out and have it working correctly.
Has anyone changed this switch? How hard is it to do? What is the part #?
My Chev dealer tried to look up this part. The part they found cost $187 + Tax. A lot for a small switch! They were not sure if it was the correct part. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Mr Hollenshead,

I am the proud owner of a 98 Fleetwood Southwind. And as usual I got it with bad Parking Brake. The previous owner had disabled the brake by releasing the cable to the brake drum. So we used the jacks whenever we where parked.
I have now replaced the hydraulic system with a electric ram. And manually operated the system works great. The hangup is that I cannot find the signal indicating the the RV is either in park or drive. (When in drive 12V to release the brake) I got both P32 service manuals and the books tell me that that signal comes from " the cam activated park brake switch".
However I was not able to locate that switch.

If you would be so kind to help me in that matter it would very much appreciated.

Are you asking about the Brake pedel Solenoid that operates to unlock the shift lever ?
go to GM dealer tell them to look it up using your VIN and (it's called Forward control) system - Auto park---I have most of the Part numbers for the unit under the vehicles---(auto-Park)electro hydraulic system-

Charles I am having the same problem with my 1997 fleetwood southwind mh. I replaced both pressure switches under the motor home that control the dash parking light and the hydraulic pump but with no success. Have you replaced the switch or found the part number yet. I get no parking brake any time The hydraulic pump never comes on and the foot parking brake wont hold either. Let me know what you foundtwzgy

Go to

for a substantive discussion about this parking brake. Also, go to Workhorse site (assuming you have a Chevy engine); you will find a manual about your chassis, in the PARTS MANUALS section(You will have to register to get the download).

The brake, which sits behind the transmission, must have oil pressure to release; it can be disabled; without oil pressure to release it in drive, it stays set and the RV won't move...

Re: P30 Auto Brake Steering Column Switch Charles Hollenshead 12-21-08
Thanks for the reply Rich.
No, I am not talking about the transmission interlock solenoid. This is another switch with a cam assembly attached to the shift linkage going to the transmission. This cam operates the switch when the shift lever is set to P.R.N.2.1 position. This signals the Auto Park to park/NOT Park.
It is located under the floor of my Motor Home on the steering column.
I had my VIN # when the dealer tried to look up the part. They are a car/pickup dealership. When I mentioned RV and P30 Chassis they went blank. I may need a truck dealership.

Where is the Auto Park Steering Column Switch located?
Re: P30 Auto Brake Steering Column Switch Charles Hollenshead 2-28-09
I have found, replaced, and adjusted the cam actuated switch on my 1997 P32 chassis. E-mail me for more details.
Also there is a Yahoo discussion Group "MotorhomesP-30GM". They have files, photos, part numbers, and lots of help. This is where I got most of my help. Check them out, and this is not a slam on this forum. It's has a lot of great info also.
