Re: 1984 Pace Arrow Tranny Rebuild/Replace? by BUBBA THE BUS TECH
Post New Message Unless this is a variant that I haven't run into (possible since I am primarily heavy duty) its a THM400 (they changed the designation in later production). The only trans that will bolt in for an overdrive is a 4L80E. Unfortunatly this is not a plug and play swap. It would need a stand alone computor and will need quite a bit of tuning to get it to work right. The 4L80E is aa quite expensive trans to buy and the computor as of a couple years ago was running 1500 plus the modifications to make it work. You should be able to get the 400 rebuilt for less than 1200 unless it realy got torn up. You can buy quite a bit of fuel for the 3 or 4 thousand dollar diffrence. (most people will never pay it back). Good Luck
