My problem is that When I shift the
Trans into Reverse It would slam into
gear & when I put it in drive it does the same thing. Other then that it runs fine. Could you shed some light on this. And could you recommend what questions I should ask if I go to a Trans shop. And whats the running price of a rebuild. Thank you in advance for your help. Oh yeah its

Re: 4L80E BUBBA THE BUS TECH 9-20-07
Lots of posible problems. It could be that you are getting a slide bang shift. This can be caused by a clutch or clutches that have gone metal to metal or are glazed. The difrence is the difrence with putting up with it or having to repair the unit. 4L80 rebuilds are starting about 3000 where I live and a max of 700 for hard part damage from there. I have found trans work varies greatly based on how comon these type transmisions are in your area and how desperate the shops in your are are in general. How to tell. When the pan comes off you need to be there. You are looking for sparkly metal in the oil and in the sediment in the pan. Some black sediment is normal but the killer is the metal that will look like tiny metal flake in paint. It means that somthing is seriously wrong inside. Good Luck
