1998 4L80E Shift Problems Bryan 10-6-06
I have a 98 4l80e behind a 6.5 diesel. It will not shift into 2nd unless shifted manually, if I back off on the throttle while in D4 it will shift but very hard and I think it is actually hitting 3rd not 2nd. There are no codes and the fluid isn't burnt. Am I looking at a clutch failure here or can I look for a simpler soloution?

Probably an internal failure. Make sure the diagnoses covers presure checks. If a compnent has failed, one way, sprag or clutch failures will show up diferent ways. Remember don't agree to a rebuild until they tell you whats wrong inside. If they tell you that a rebuild will cost $3000. and you agree to it if nessesary They will rebuild and bill even if a patch would fix it.
Good Luck
