My 2000 Suburban has 96K miles. Yesterday while driving to work the tranny made a loud, almost like a paper bag popping, noise and then immediately wouldn't drive forward anymore. Reverse still works but 1, 2, 3 and D are inop. I'm thinking it's the band but not sure. I don't want to buy a reman. and certainly don't have the tranny shop funds... suggestions?

Build it yourself. By a manual and tear her down. will take several weekends. I have built worse tranys, 4L60E cost me after finding the local trany part supplyer and using a made up company name about 30% of trany shop using all premium parts. Good Luck
