1990 ford ranger transmission woes joe 8-14-06
Son said auto. tranny went on his 1990 4wd ford ranger last fall. workin' man (money's tight) dad took his word. finally located what appeared to be a good used one at a junk yard. b.i.l. is a pro. mopar mech. and thought so too. it was said to have been rebuilt and had 89 thou. on it when we got it. after a tortuous few weeks (things were missing on outside ie. vacuum module, extension tube for dipstick, mount, you know) we finally got it installed took it down the road and son says it's doing the same thing. scream, pull out my hair etc. just kiddin'. been sitting in my garage since. it'll go in reverse immediately but takes spells shifting and only went into o.d. during one attempt at driving it. i live up a slight grade off of a secondary road and when I pulled up onto the road it acted as if i'd threw it into neutral.then it won't even go back into drive at all for a time. i thought i wasn't going to make it back to the garage but then it finally kicked back into gear. can anybody help. one guy thinks it may be an electrical sensor problem inside it?. miss my old '79 f150. thanks, muskrat joe
