I have 1987 ford ranger automatic. after driving for 50 to 100 miles the transmission decides to puke all its fluid on the pavement. can not determine the location of fluid lose. any help????
I have a 93 ford ranger 3.0 auto tranny,every time i pull my boat over a few miles it gets hot and pukes fluid out the over flow,my friend has a ford explorer 95 3.0 auto tranny and he dont have any problems pulling my boat it is 1000 lbs and 16 ft,so do i need to flush the system and replace filters or add a bigger cooler,steve
Cloged trans cooler will cause over heat and puking out of the vent.Check for restiction by blowing air and then some brake cleaner followed by more air.If its bad it will build pressure instead of flow.
Here in the great white northwest(B.C. Canada) we see this all the time on many models. This is caused usually by front seal inversion. This is a phenomenon due to poor venting, cooling, excessive heat, big trailers, and driver error. It usually happens on a long uphill, on a hot day(85 F or better). This seal will normally revert to it's normal state as the trans cools, causing confusion of owners, and mechanics as there is no obvious leak. Tow truck drivers in the mountains are quite familiar with this problem. Fill the trans up, and go again, if you didn't burn it up.
This circumstance can be avioded by manually downshifting, if possible, out of OD before hills, and an occaisional look under the vehicle to check for accumulated dust etc. which might plug the vents. Checking often for clogged trans and gear box vents is recommended. Mud wasps love tubing. Regularly washing the external area of the radiator, AC condenser, and trans cooler if present, might avoid this. Often, the overdrive is ruined by this happening.

I just had a tranmission fluid puke from my 89 Ford Ranger PU after a hard climb uphill last week. Upon consultation with an experienced mechanic, he advised me to wait for the vehicle to cool for at least three hours or overnight then fill the tranny fluid up to level and drive it home. To my surprised, it worked like he stated. My best trouble shooting guessed is that my truck transmission overheated and blew the front tranny seal. When the tranny cooled, it must have created a vacuum in the tranny to sucked the seal back in. Does anyone know of a remedy to prevent this from happening?

My son and I own a 1987 4 cylinder ford ranger truck. He put in a fly wheel & etc. and lost some of the transmission fluid. What weight should we get to replinish it.???
I believe it is 4 cylinder.!! I have been searching for a long time and I have not been able to answer the question. Please help...!!!
