Allison transmission won't go to Neutral Don 5-12-06
Have a 1990 Hawkins Motor Coach with Cat 3208 engine, and an Allison transmission that only has toggle switch for gear shift. Arrow forward for drive, neutral for start, arrow to rear for reverse. Toggle switch won't make transmission shift to neutral so that coach can be started. What do I need to do?. No idea on my part, any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Don

Hi Don,

Your allison transmission is an air shift. When you kill the motor with it in gear, the air bleeds off and it can not shift back to neutral to start. ALWAYS turn off motor with switch in neutral. Now you have to get an air compressor and charge the air system and it will shift. Hope this helps.
