I have a 1994 allegro bay dp with 6 spd allison, on a recent trip, i was on some pretty rought rds (bumpy) an i have never had this problem i'm about to describe..i had stopped at a red light, the "do not shift" light came on an the selector pad went blank. when the light changed, i accelerated an the pad came back on an the shifts were normal, about a block, another red light, an it happen again, a buzz for a few seconds the light do not shift an selector side of the pad went blank, light changed to green i accelerated, an ever thing again was find, went on about 7 or 8 miles to campground, stop at idle, then started foward then i backed up a couple times, an no problems, only those 2 times at the lights. i'm going to have it checked soon, but any ideas? could i have jarred some connections or wiring on the rought roads ? thanks
Used to work on a bus with this same complaint. Occaisionaly had shut engine down and restart. Code came up comunication error, in other words loose conection. Never found it, couldn't reproduce in the shop. Run her till she will do it so you can reproduce at will then go looking or take in and get fixed.
I don't know how it happens or can predict when the transmission will not shift into Neutral. But here is a couple of ways around it for me: 1)putting the parking brake on, disconnect the positive cable on the battery, (the transmission must have an electronic sensor that is disfunctioning). When reconnected the transmission will be back in neutral. 2)Knowing this (transmission problem) will happen again when I slow down below 30mph I manually switch the transmission into neutral, long before a light or stop sign or traffic stops.
Good Luck - If someone figures it out please send me the results
I have same tranny but my problem is in the cold weather the shift touch pad does not put trans' into gear. I have to try and warm it a bit before it will work and this usually takes 5 mins. Once working it seems ok and after driving for a while no problem. Are sensor ? contacts getting worn??
Thanks for any suggestions
