4l60e no 1st / not shifting to 4th sean 1-22-06  
I have a 94 silverado, Ive put a rebuilt trans in myself but the darn thing is starting in 2nd gear and will not shift at all into 4th. my check engine light is on but don't know what codes it is giving. I need help, lots of help. I've done all that I know and was praying one of you guys can give me some advice on things I can try myself. Any advice is better than what I've got now. Thanks

Have a 1994 gmc 1500 4wd. tranny started in first and wouldn't shift to overdrive. put in a rebuild kit and now it starts in 1st when first started and will change into second after letting off gas peddle. when i stop it stays in second gear and won't change out to any gear nomore. can put into low 1 and skip low 2 go straight to drive and will change out to second but nothing else. does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem? i would greatly appericate any info someone could offer.

My check engin light came on after I had a used trany put in my 1994 chevy S_10 it came out of a van It wont go ihto 1st or 4th how do I fix this problem thanks George

Dave, try checking both your transmission silinioeds (wrong spelling), one works for 2 gears and the other works for the other 2 gears, don't know if this is your problem but give it a shot.
Sorry Richard I have no clue but good luck on fixing the prob. NoEcm on this topic has a manual he might let go for a small fee, I got one from him and it is excellent, haven't had all the time to go through mine but it has tons of info and is a big help. It has much more in depth trouble shooting than any generic manual I' ve seen. You can get great info from it. Give him a meesage or send him a e-mail.

I have a 95 gmc sierra that has this problem only when the tranny is warm. no codes are stored, no junk engine light, but only has 2nd and 3rd and wont shift on its own. When stuffed in low 1 it still starts out in 2nd and when i shift it to third you need your spine realigned from the jar when it shifts. any pointers?

I have found that something ( a short ) is causing my 10 amp fuse in
the fuse box of the cab to blow out. I hadn't noticed this before so there is a
great possibility that there lies the prob. I won't be able to investigate into
it until Thurs. or Fri. If I find this to be my problem I will certainly let
you guys know.in the day. If any of ya'll have any
new info please keep me posted as well. Yes ya'll from Texas

Check your placement of Valve #385 (Valve, 3 to 4 shift). If reversed this could cause a no 1st gear situation and no shift into 4th gear.

Thanks NoEcm fot the info, I am desperatly tring to get this thing running right and any info is always helpful. I will check on that valve, still can't find out what is causing my trans fuse to burn out. I've gone thru ever inch that I know and can't find the prob. any suggestions out there? Thanks to Herman for the manual also. I be waiting............

I have a 94 camaro and here is my dilema, My transmission mount was broken for about a month and everytime the car shifted to 2nd the tranny bumped the side of the car, no big deal if you take it easy. I floored it oneday from a dead stop and there was a loud noise from the back of the tranny I continued down the highway about 9 miles, when I pulled into my driveway and tried to proceed to my house the car would no longer go forward only in reverse...can you tell me what I broke???

Hell I have a 95 gmc with a 4l60 e.I changed it out a year ago it had 60 thousand on it and know it only has 1st and reverse both are strong and fluid is clean no codes and replaces the whole throtel boduy with ll relays. so my queastion is could it be the 2-4 band thanks any help will be apperated

Sean I have seen this problem. you need to first disconect you harness from trans and install a new fuse to see if problem lies in trans or in harness to pcm.

1999 GMC Suburban, 159K mi
Towing last weekend. After 3+ hours, the tranny started to slip (4L60). Pulled over, placed in 2nd, and crept along. Then put it back in drive and acc to about 45 mph and it slipped again. Stopped. Back in 1st it pulled fwd. Then shifted and started slipping. Then no forward in any gear.

After you let it set for 10-20 min, it would go into gear, and move for about 20 ft and as soon as any load was on it, it slipped.

The tranny was "rebuilt" by a shop about 40K mi ago and has had very light use since.

Anything simple to check or just buy a rebuilt replace?

What about the torque converter? How do they work? Could it have worn out?

I have a 96' gmc 4x4 i just bought.Easy shift in one and two,after rpm's get high enough to gp to 3, acts like its in nuetral.does go into gear with-out pressing brake any help please?

1993 2500 silverado 4x4 would not shift trans burn't up rebuilt it and it wont starts in 2nd i can mannuly shift 2nd to 3rd but i can't get 1st or 4th

My trans shifts from 1st to and but not to 3rd or 4th. It has never gave me any problem before does anyone have any ideals before I buy a rebuilt one.

JUST GOT OVER THAT SHIFT PROBLEM... '93 ASTRO WITH 4.3L 4160E. To be slick I tried to drop the pan to change the fluid/filter without loosening the rear mount, just pried the pan past it wit a BF screwdriver. When I got it back together, I incurred the shift problem. I pulled the pan again (properly) and discovered I crushed the shift solenoid on the right side (at the back of the valve body).I called Dacco Detroit, ordered another one and installed it. (Real easy clip and plug device). When I reassembled it, problem was still there, so I came to this site to read the threads which led me to tracing the pink wire looking for "On in run or start" voltage at the connector on the right side of the trans. According to my Chilton manual there are 2 pink wires, which there are. The one in question is also to the hot lead on the O2 sensor which is in proximity to the trans plug, so I just confirmed continuity between one of the 2 trans plug pink wires and the pink wire to the O2 connector plug, then ran the test. I then unhooked the battery (absolute must) before removing the interior kicker panel in front of the right front door exposing the ECM, PCM or whatever Chevy is calling the engine's computer, and unplugged it for 10 Minutes and plugged it back in. Worked fine ever since. One the other end of that pink wire is a 20 amp fuse labeled "Instrument Cluster" so you can figure if your gages are out that wire may be shorted at the solenoid coil inside the trans. (burned up). The van has a smidge over 243,000 miles on it.

My truck is a 97 silverado with about 150,000 miles and out of the blue i started getting a manufacturers shift error and then a week later it wont shift into 2nd gear. I have to let rev up and let off of the gas to go from 1st to 3rd. any advice?

I have a 1995 chevy tohoe with a 4l60e tranny and i haved replased everything but 1st and 2nd gear shifs fine bud 3rd and overdrive is nuthing please let me know thank you for your time.

I fixed the problem!
I have a 1990 chevy s10 and it was tbi but I changed the motor to a 1995 L35 which is a cpi v6
I changed the motor, wire harness, and tranny. everything went great,but on test drive i had no first gear and no overdrive it was just free gliding at the end of third.WTF. i looked at some wiring diagrams and noticed a sepperate wire from the ignition to the tranny which was the ignition 12v.source i think it was pink once it had 12v to it i had all gears and a faster s10.hope this helps.ask 4 wire diagrams if needed

93 suburban 750 holley and i changed the distributor. the only thing is hooked up to the computer is the trns. other people have done the samething and they are not having any problems what do you suggest

Same problem but my tachometer don't work and my speedometer also shifter inicator light quit working and my check gages light flash when driving some please help.

I got a 94 yukon and replaced the tranny and it had that problem i checked the pink wire going in and it had power so it wasn't that had no codes so i took the pan off and went after the 2 shift servos and the one underneath closest to the drivers side with the red and green wires in it was bad so i replaced it and now works like new. you can put 12v to it to test it negative on green positive on red and it should click but even if it does it maybe weak but its a cheap part so just replace it.

I have been bothered with the same problem for a while but i switched my speed scensor and it started working for a while again then quit so i bought another and for some reason the gear that is above the scensor in the transmission was rubbing up on the new one.But i did notice a difference in the hight of the prongs on the next scensor.So my opinion is either they make them cheap or the gear in the trans must be messed up or a bearing out in it to make it to were it doesnt turn true.If anyone figures it out let me no

I have a '94 Caprice which I purchased to do a retro Impala project with. I bought it knowing there was a tranny problem. Same deal as many... Strong 1st and reverse, but that's it. Tranny was supposed to be a fresh o/h... Fluid is clean as new w/no burnt smell. I keep hearing about this tranny fuse... Where is it in the wiring? Didn't see one in either fuse panel. Thanks to all in advance!

I ad the same prob with my 96 tahoe, and i t ended up being bolth sprags i think thats what there called,
