I rbuilt the 4l60e tranny and when I put it back together the truck won't start. I chased wires and did't find anything bad. I tryed to check the neutral safety switch but not sure if I did it correctly. I unbolted the two bolts and tryed to rotated it so that it would show park. The truck will come on but won't even try to start. I jumped the starter and it would not stay started. I had the starter tested and it was good? Please help
My memory is not that great, but if this is an auto transmission for a ford, there is a possibility that the MLPS switch (manual lever position sensor switch)is incorrectly adjusted or the wiring is wrong. I recently replaced the switch on my 460. It was not quite aligned right and as a result it told the computer that the tranny was not in neutral or park. Try starting the engine in each of the other transmission stops (i.e. reverse, 1, 2, 3, od, etc.) Also, for my 1994, the replacement MLPS's have different connector pin orientation than the originals. I had to get that straightened out.
If you haven't replaced the MLPS, I have read in many places that it should always be replaced when doing extensive work on the tranny. They are notoriously prone to failure.
Hard to guess about things like this.one thing i can tell you for sure is that your trans is probably not going to work, for long anyway.leave the professional jobs to the professionals.it is hard to keep up with all the updates the manufactors and atra, atsg make to these trans.if you don't get the publications and tech updates your wastinge time
