After running at full temperature for awhile speedometer stops working for a minute. after this happens the trans stays in second gear. i can discommect the battery and it will be fine for awhile then the problem starts again. a code 72 shows up on the diagnostic mode of computer. this is a intermittent problem,no particular pattern or frequency. thanks

It is just a guess but the speedo runs off the vehicle speed sensor which is on the side of the trans. I would check the VSS sensor/sender. If it is bad it would also affect shift points.When you disconnect the battery you are resetting the ECM. Any GM dealer can tell you what a code 72 means.
