A4LD Auto Trans 1994 Explorer Bruce 7-7-05
I have rebuilt an A4LD tranny. Clean work, new parts to include steels, frictions, lip seals, thrust washers. The symptom is when placed in overdrive the tranny will shift first and second and then you have to really rev the engine for it to finally shift into 3rd gear. It is not slipping. When it does shift into 3rd gear it locks in good no slipping. I performed a vaccuum test on the modulator @ 15" control pressure well within specs, @ 10" control pressure well within specs. After it shifts into third gear it also shifts correctly into overdrive. I use ATSM manuals for my work. Please help!

How did you adjust your bands? I had to go back in and readjust them on the vehicle. Plus the book says to tighten to 10 ft pd and then out 3 1/2 turns. Start there and adjust in more if you want to shift sooner out if later. I had the same problem when I did mine
