4L80E Transmission Problems Dan Howard 6-5-05  
My motorhome will not move when put into gear. It wants to slightly creep forward no matter which gear I have selected, even reverse. The motor will rev up, but there is no response from the transmission. The gear selector is moving on the side of the transmission. The motorhome is a TREK with the Auto brake feature.

Ok heres the deal my buddy has a 2006 chevy silverdao(1500) with the 4L60 tranny in it that he destroyed. i was wondering if a 4L80 tranny would even work in it. like everything lining up to it or what would have to be change. and if it ever has been done. please respond if anyone knows any info about what im talking about thanks

I have a 4L80E that came out of my 2000 silverado at 40641 miles, I had trouble at 14000 with it slamming shifts. I had chvrolet put a new certa in and now at 83000 it shudders between shifts on long trips and temp started running 20-25 degrees higher than it normaly runs. This is a intermittent problem that occurs on long trips. Local day to day is normal. Fluid smells slightly burnt. It was serviced by GM at 54000 miles. ??????

On my last trip the trans keep shifting in and out of overdrive. Then would only shift 1,2,3, very late and hard. No noise, but now only have 2nd and reverse. Have not dropped pan yet. Before trip had a normal service done fluid and filter and no metal or abnormal findings. Suggestions ???

On my 4l80e trans. I have only 1st and second gear. Am I looking at a solenoid or is it external electrical problem. I tried simple first with just a screen kit but with no luck. Just looking for a better educated guess than my own.

My 2004 3/4 ton Silverado has a brand new 4l80e transmission installed by the dealer and when it sits for more tan an hour it will not move until it runs for a while 1-3minutes. it acts like it is low on fluid but the dipstick is showing about a 1/2 quart high

I have 1996 3/4 HD 4x4 pickup. If the tranny is in overdrive it will slip out and then nothing.... If you select 3rd it will operate normally without o/d. One Shop says New tranny but I am wondering if it is solenoids? Any thoughts?? Thanks Sherman

I have a 98 Surburan with a 4L80E.The transmission works find until you put it under a hard load. Then the trans starts to shift very hard. You can pull over and cut it off then restart the engine and the transmission then starts to shift properly. Any help would be apprectiated. Thanks

I have a 1994 GMC 1500 sierra 2wd and the shift solenoids are gone due to a lightnen strick which as far as I know now that it only fried the components in the transmission and I am having hell finding the parts to replace, can you tell me where I can look online where to find these parts..

I have a 2000 chevy k3500 crew cab dually with a 7.4 gas engine and a 4L80E trans. It has 163000 miles and I just had the fluid drained, the converter and trans flushed and new fluid and filter done. Now it seems like the converter isn't locking up and it is turning about 6-800 rpm higher at highway speeds with or without a load. I don't notice any slippage or shifting problems. T shop that did the work hooked up there snap-on monitor and showed me that every thing looks ok. Any idea what else to look at? Thanks

I have a 4l80e transmission in a 3\4 ton chevy 4 wheel drive heavy duty pickup. The transmission is pushing fluid out of the vent tube when the transmission reaches approximately 200 degrees. Other than that the transmission shifts fine and operates normally.

I have a 1992 chevy 1 ton 2wd 7.4 ltr 4L80E trans. It has some intermittent noises coming from underside. Trans shifts just fine fluid changed every 5000, no servere duty. It does sound like you are running over tin cans on pavement or a hissing noise, even in park at idle. just every so often it happens.

I have a newly built transmission thatworks fine till it gets hot then the translite comes on and you have to shift it manually,I have a eng code for temp sensor on engine Iguess? please help this is for a bus that belongs to an orphanage in mexico that we support.I need to resolve this problem soon!

I have a 4l80e in my 1993 chevy 3/4 ton i just got a transmission form the junk yard and the big plug is not the right one it has a screw in the middle of it the one i took out does not have the screw in it did they change it on some what can i do to make it work

I have a 1994 Caprice 9c1 ex police car. The trans has always worked great and has always had a hard 1-2 shift. My problem is just today when taking off from a light it seems to be stuck in 3rd or 2nd gear. I can restart the car and it will work until the next stop. No check engine light on. 2000 chevy P/U with 163000 mlies. It has no overdrive, and sometimes the 2-3 shift is delayed. Also seems to shift hard all the time. Is a replacement needed ?

1993 chevy silverodo,1 ton, 4x4,6.5 turbo, replaced all the selonids, lost drive and overdrive, no slippage. Slams from the start through all the gears. Can anyone help me on this problem.

I have a 200 chevy one ton with a 6.5 diesel ane 4L80E. it shifted fine till i parked it four two weeks and wen started code came up for shift solinoid b and is stuck in limp mode. changed solinoid and no difference.. any ideas? thanks

My 1999 Chevy C-3500 with the 4L80E transmission want go into re-verse. It drives forward find but no re-verse. I've been told that I have a bad shift solenold. Could this be my problem? The trans mission has about 100K miles on it.

Check it out people with the 4l60e. I have a 1994 caprice 9c1, I had three codes that came up involving the transmission, i replaced all the solenoids, the filter, and the fluid and ran synthetic. And as some of you know it ran good when the car is first started up, then after you stop and start again it pulls like it in third gear. I replaced the transmission and it still did the same thing. In conclusion it was the pcm the whole time. I paid $100 for the pcm out of a 95 roadmaster out of the junkyard, and $50 for the reprogram at a chevrolet dealership and walla... the problem was fixed. $800 for a rebuilt trans with a shift kit, $60 for trans filter kit and b&m atf synthetic, $14 for each shift solenoid, $45 for tcc solenoid, and 12 hours worth of labor to change out the trans by myself. So I spent close to $1,ooo in part alone. So hopefully my pain will be your relief, enjoy people hit me up if you have anymore questions regarding anything GM.

I have a 3/4 ton gmc suberban 4x4. whel i purchased it the trans lines were disconnected. upon connecting the lines and driving it, it starts like it is in 4th gear till the temp. reaches normal, then it shifts fine but starts to whine louder and louder. it sounds like a rear diff that is about to go. P.S. should i replace it or can it be rebuilt thanks fred

4l80E shudders in 1st gear, all the way through, but is fine in second, third,etc.

HI I HAVE A 94 C3500 4X4, WHEN IT IS COLD THE TRANS SHIFTS GOOD BUT WHEN IT GETS UP TO 180 DEGREES IT WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR, I PUT IN IN LOW GEAR AND TRIED TO SHIFT IT THUR THE GEAR BUT IT STAY IN LOW, BUT I CAN LET IT SIT 15 OR 20 MIN. AND IT WILL SHIFT GOOD TILL IT GET HOT AGAIN

1995 Silverado. Would only shift into 2nd, reverse and park. Had the transmission rebuilt. Problem came back. It ran great for the 1st day then that night started doing the same thing. The next morning it seemed to run fine. Took it back and they said they are going to put a new used computer in it. Is this the problem or something else? They said they replaced all the electronics on & in the transmission. Also the tac and the speedometer were acting strange before all this happened. When this occurs the little orange light on the shifter goes out. Any help will be appreciated. I don't want to get ripped off.

Thank you for taking my question,A friend of mine wanted to buy my 1994 gmc 2500 4x4 diesel 6.5 turbo.2 months go by and no money so repo the truck back not to find out later he was pulling a 3 axle stamp 3/4 inch steel trailor with inline 6 cummins out of a big rig.i have replaced just about everything and now my transmission is doing funny things.first it has 4L80e trans.After running on the interstate for 40 miles i came to a stop.then light turn green and my transmission seem too stall but the engine was running but the trans didnt want ot engage or slipped.then it engaes and runs fine til you stop again.but if you cut it off and start back up again it fine for a little while,oh yeah when it does slip it clunks.could it be selanoid or sensors.iwas reading some forums about 4l80e transmission problems and one gent had total rebuilt and still have the same problem.My reverse gear is really weak.the truck has 228,000 miles on it.i replaced trnsmission and filter.thanks

I have a 97 Chevy 2500 Hd 4X4 We have the transmission apart and the reverse servo is broken.
We are going to try to rebuild this transmission and need help finding the specialty parts such as this that do not come in the rebuild kits.

When transmission reaches 110 to 125 degrees it shifts very hard.You can stop for a few minutes and it will shift fine for a few miles then it starts to shift hard again. This is a 2000 GMC 4x4 with 59,000 miles. 2500 seris.

Slow to go in reverse,complete re-build and still problem.also burns out third gear clutch's.rev engine and will slam into gear once it get's hot,mechanic said he replaced torque converter but said that would not be causing problem.

I have a 1997 Chevy 1500 series pick up four wheel drive. I'm stuck in drive won't down shift or up shift by itself. Tachometer, speedometer, and gear selector goes off and on by itself. Put truck six different computers to diagnose it. It told me that number one-shift cylanoid was stuck open. I change all cylanoid in the tranny. Put new neutral safety switch on the side of tranny. I still have service engine soon light on. Still have to shift truck by hand. Still have no tachometer, speedometer, and gear selector. Needed help before I lose the tranny or it drives me crazy. 96 3/4T 5.7L orginal owner.Trans seems to shift out of overdrive during rainy or high moisture.I changed all drive line fluids at 50k.Fluids that I use is amsoil 2000.I will be on a third change in 8K miles.

2000 Chev 3500,210,000 miles. Trans seems fine when accelerating.Then as rpms level out,trans seems to stall or slip.It will reengage when power is applied.

Your seals that you keep installing and they get blew out usely happeneds from two reason. 1st it wasn't installed correctly, 2nd that the tranny is getting hot and this will blow the seal every time, so if your not towing something then you have a flow problem to the cooler.Test your
flow with air hose to cooler lines ad
air to one side and see how the oil blews out the other line. It may be clogged.

If you still have your old trans take the pan off anf swap the wire harness fron your trans to the new while you have off the pan put new filter in the wire harness are same on the inside of the trans {i know because idid mine on 1992 3500 k cube truck the big plug pushes in to the inside of the trans be careful

I have a 1996 suburban with a 7.4 liter moter and a 4l80e transmission.It has reverse but no forward gears.Thecode comes up as a shift solenoid b electrical.code number p0758.Any info will help.

I recently took out the 4L60E trans. that had done gone bad in my 94 camaro and i replaced it with a 4L60E trans. i purchased from a friend of a friend. it came out of a wreaked 97 camaro, both camaros were powered by a 3.4L V-6. Knowing it was'nt the right thing to do, but in a have to situation i used the torque converter out of my car. NOTE: i drained it completely filled it with fluid and drained it again hoping to maybe flush it out if needed be.Please remember that was a have to situation. OK now the results... it would take the gears or 1st. and rev and back to park just fine sitin still.but drivin it,it would not shift out of first(fluid level good). So then i tried to maybe erase any bad trouble code it might be gettin,(i pulled the PCM/IGN fuse for a min. or two and now drivin down road it shifts from 1st to 2nd very hard at high RPMs(3500)and now it is hard to get to go into OD and also when comin to a complete stop or even puttin trans. back into park and back to drive again it does not seem to be going to 1st. it seems to be starting out in 2nd. or maybe even drive. Could anyone please be kind enough to help me out with this problem and if the torque converter is bad could it be causing all of these problems. thanks for your concern.
