When starting off from a dead stop, after stopping engine and restarting, the transmission will shift like it should through all gears into overdrive. As long as I keep the throttle held in the exact same position it will remain in overdrive, but the moment I move the throttle up or down, it will drop into drive and will not return to overdrive, unless I stop the engine and restart the engine. Have changed fluid, filter, and the TPS but still is doing the same thing. Have three codes, DTC 22, 43, and 68. 1991 GMC 3500 with 350TBI.
Thanks.
I have a 94 suburban 6.5 diesel. It won't shift into overdrive for about 5 miles. Then the engine service soon light comes on and it will shift fine. When I restrart it the same thing happens like clockwork. I check the codes and I only get a 15. Help!

Got a gm 4l80-e in a 1991 bentley turbo rl. came in with harsh engagement, very harsh and slightly late 1 to 2 shift and no kick down/shift down under any amount of load.removed pan, clean and no debris, replaced tps, no difference, replaces force motor and manifold pressure plate, no difference, replaced input and output sensors, no difference the car has the same faults. any ideas other than the transmission control unit? antone out there to help? thanks
Have 2002 5.7L vav 4L80e trans, WOT the 1 2 shift will not happen unless u let slightly off the fuel, if you normal floor the van it works fine just when you try to as i say push thru the floor as these people are doing any suggestions other thatv the obvious one,
I have a 2001 K2500 with the 6.0L engine and the 4L80 transmission with 80000 miles on it. I bought it with 75000. When it is is shifting from first to second it hesitates for a second and then when it shifts it shifts hard. It functions fine through all the other gears.I have been told a couple different things it could be. I was told that I might need a new transmission or it just could be a selinoid. But I have a hard time believing that I need to replace the transmission. If anybody out there has experienced the same problem and has a remedy please let me know.
Truck has been sitting for 2 years, stuck in what is believed to be 2nd or 1st gear.
reverse works fine. just replaced vortec intake gasket set, possible ground? Trans controller on the trans?
1996 K2500 6.5t 84k miles with the 4l80 Trans! Great truck and cruises on freeway beautifully.. Only problem is 2-3 upshift is a bit late and 2nd bangs in a bit hard anmost like a shift kit hard. At 23 - 25 mph while in slow traffic rpm revs a bit and seems to want to down shift then up shift rapidly... Kinda odd never seen this one before... Read the response on the accumlator spring, thinking that may solve the hard 1-2 shift bang!
I have a 95 k3500 6.5t witha 4l80e trans. It sat for three monthes due to engine rebuild..I drove it about 800 miles, when It starts to shift from 1st to 2nd it hesitates,I can manually shift
it fine, changed filter and fluid and it did'nt help, small amount of black smuge on magnet..Can anybody help me, truck only has 130,000 miles on it..
Sounds to me like you've got a broken 1-2 accumulator spring. The absence of the spring doing its job correctly, would cause this complaint. See the accumulator moderates the speed at which the cluth is applied. In this case we have the 1-2 accumulator easing the application of the intermediate clutch. The spring being broken would cause the cluth not to apply immediatley until the un moderated accumulator chasm is filled. Once filled the clutch would instantly apply hence describing the complaint you listed. Easy fix!
Dont pay attention to the email address its my wifes. Email me back once you fix it and let me know.
