Water in V-730 Chuck Courter 9-18-04
Had a trans cooler fail internally and have water in the transmission. Did not know this and bus has been setting for a couple of years. I just changed out the cooler and also pulled the pan off of the transmissiona and at that time found the water in the pan. It has formed a lot of scum and corrosion on the valve body. I also pulled the plug out of the bottom of the bell housing and it had a little water there also.

Is this transmission worth saving or should I just change it out now.

I don't want to go any further until I'm comfortable with the outcome.

Thanks,
Chuck

Sorry Chuck, You have to change it out. The antifreeze will attack the glue on your fiber plates and the fiber material will flake off. I would not trust it especially on long distance.

Thanks Randy,
That's what I kind of suspected but wanted to hear it from someone else. Guess I'm in the market for a transmission.

Chuck,
I have a V-730 core in my shop right now. I know it needs bevel gears, but I don't know what kind of shape it is in onthe inside. Maybe you could use the bevel gears out of your transmission on this transmission. Let me know if you are interested. Maybe we can make a deal. It is just taking up room in my shop. I aquired it on a package deal with some other transmissions. If you would rather call me, as I don't always have time to get on the internet, my phone number is 715-273-0411.
