I'm getting so tired of getting the run around from dealers and VW.... we have a 2001 VW Turbo, 5 speed.... when we bought it they said no prob to tow..4 down... we bought a tow kit from roadmaster, now the info I get is better not...have to stop every 50 iles even with a manual transmission so, anyone out there who has had experience towing one of these little bugs....please let me know.

Can you flat tow a 5 speed bug behind a motorhome.

I have a '87 VW Golf 5 sp. that I have towed about 25,000 miles with no problem. You said VW and the dealer say okay. Where did you get the no way info? I don't know about your car but I would suggest verifying the credentials of the other info source. Also you can do a Google search on towable cars and probably find out that way. You may have to supply more than the model year.

We tow a vw bug 2002 for over 50,000 miles same thing with our friends. no problems
