1981 Diesel 1600cc Transporter. Does anyone know where the fuel pump is? I have found a small round black device that the fuel line runs through and it appears to be wired to the battery. Or is it part of the fuel injection unit?
Thanks
Morning
I have had the injector pump recondishioned and have refitted it to the van and it is starting and will only take half trotal it gets spluttery and smokey. the van is a 1997 2.4 vw transporter. I marked the pullys before taking it out and have out them back the same way. But I dont have the book to check proper timing, can you help with any of these problems.
Yours mike
On the VW Diesels the fuel injection pump is also the main fuel pump. The black disk could be a fuel heater. If you get no fuel check the fuel solenoid on the injection pump. It should have a wire to it with 12 V on it when the ignition switch is on. If there's 12V there remove wire and touch it to the solenoid connection and lsiten for a slight click sound indicating it's operating. No click with voltage? Remove solenoid (it unscrews) and clean with carb cleaner. Replace and retest, still no og? Replace solenoid, imported auto supplies can get them, same as for a rabbit diesel.
