The transmissions are probably "727"s and likely will look alike. There's a chance the output splines could be different, so watch the driveshaft connection. A speed shop may have a balance weight kit and instructions how to install it. I went through this with a Dodge van. Took internally balanced 318 engine out and installed externally balanced 360. 360 was furnished with a torque converter which I used. Problem was, converter turned out to not be for a heavy vehicle. Had too much slippage built into it, ran hot all the time, and I burned out the transmission before I understood what was wrong. Welding the weight to your current TC looks more attractive for that reason. However, you need to evaluate the transmission failure. If the failure spread debris into the converter you don't dare re-use it. Would suggest a rebuilt TC instead, but beware of its stall specs so you don't get into what happened to me.
