|4L80E shifts out of OD||Joe Wilson||1-9-12|
|I have a 2000 C2500 and the trans with work as advertized all day long in town but at highway speed after 5 or 6 miles, it shifts out of OD and hammers hard thru the gears and will not go back into OD until I shut the truck off for about 10 seconds. I start it back up and take off just fine and shifts normal and goes into OD then a few miles later it shifts out of OD again and hammers. I tried an oil cooler and no joy. I think it is electrical but what? Please help|

|At a guess I think the computer is "seeing" a slip in the transmission while in OD.|
It is putting up the pressures to stop the slip and when it gets to the point it knows it can't you get this issue.
This is a common problem with a failed Torque converter clutch or a Control problem.
No matter why it does this you need to have the truck scanned with a scanner that showes the actual sender readings and what the trans is doing.
I bet the converter is not locking but it is not an issue around town because it would not normally be locked for long enough to trigger the computer to do this.

|Your distributor is bad(sloppy). you may not think or feel it is because the engine may run smoothly but if you put it on a scanner it will show. you can unplug the drac module(vss buffer) by computer and it will reset for 1 or 2 shift sequences then lose OD or 4th gear again. do not get a distributor from the junkyard! get a new one. this will give you back OD... now you know one reason things went to distributorless ignitions. very common among 5.7/L480E combos including isuzu box trucks, NPR W4 4000, with gm powertrain mentioned.|

|Will a trans from a 1995 2500 2 wheel drive work in a 1996 3500 2 wheel drive the 1995 is a diesel the 1996 is regular fuel will this work|
